Brief car fire causes scare near downtown Magnolia

A brief car fire at the corner of N. Washington and North Street in Magnolia caused a short stoppage of southbound traffic Wednesday afternoon and a few slightly shaken-up passengers.

The incident entailed a white GMC Envoy suffering a stroke of mechanical failure causing the motor to spark and flare as fluids burst around it. The car passengers then fled the vehicle as they awaited local emergency personnel, according to on-scene reports.

The Magnolia Fire Department, located just blocks away from the incident, had any flames or sparks doused and the zone safe within minutes of the emergency call placed around 3:30 p.m.

By 3:50 p.m., MFD had left the scene, while Magnolia Police stayed on to direct traffic near downtown as they awaited a wrecker to move the slightly crippled SUV.

No one was hurt in the incident and damage to the vehicle seemed to be minimal.
