Magnolia Fire Department officials, along with their trusty mobile home fire unit, on Monday visited Magnolia East Side Kindergarten Center students as part of a weeklong fire safety initiative aimed at teaching and informing children of the dangers and causes of common household fires.

In each class presentation, the school children are taught by the firemen how to avoid common domestic fire accidents and how to properly evacuate a location if an incident happens to occur. To demonstrate firsthand the chore, the trailer was filled with haze, then the children crawled under the faux smoke and flames, just as they were taught. When they successfully completed their drill, the tots were also treated to an appearance by FirePup, the mascot of the Magnolia Fire Department.

MFD officials this week plan to travel throughout schools in Magnolia to educate children younger than fifth grade on fire safety tips. Aside from the Monday Kindergarten display, scheduled stops this week also include East Side Elementary, Central Elementary, Walker Pre-K, Columbia Christian School, and the Southwest Child Development Center.
