Five Magnolia underclassmen earn postseason honors

Five Magnolia Panther baseball players were recently named to the 5A South All-Conference Team, with two of those also being named to the Class 5A All-State Team.

Payton Campbell and Connor Harrington were named both all-conference and all-state.

Campbell was also named to the All-State Tournament Team. Adam Pieratt, Halen Sanders and Dayton Dickson were named all-conference.

Campbell began the year at first base, before moving to third midway through the season.

He finished the year with a .415 batting average and led the team in RBI’s with 26, and doubles with 14. He also hit three home runs. Campbell also pitched in four games, where he had one save.

Harrington played shortstop and pitched for the Panthers.

He hit .344 on the season, and led the team with 28 walks. His on base percentage of .551 was second on the team.

On the mound, Harrington led the team in appearances, wins and saves.

He appeared in 13 games, was 8-0, and had four saves with a 2.96 ERA. He struck out 31 in 45 and 2/3 innings and walked only 12.

Pieratt saw action at every infield position was one of the Panthers top starting pitchers.

At the plate, he hit 321 with two home runs and 22 RBI’s.

On the mound, he was second on the team in appearances with 10, led the team in innings pitched with 47 while compiling a 6 and 3 record.

He was second in strikeouts with 58, walked only 12 and had an ERA of 4.02.

Sanders played right field and pitched for the Panthers. He had the highest batting average on the team with a .433 average and also had the highest on base percentage at .553.

He also drove in 15 runs. His 13 walks was second on the team.

As a pitcher, he had a 5 and 2 record in 9 games. He led the team in strikeouts with 64 and his ERA of 1.77 was the lowest on the team.

Dickson was the Panthers catcher. He hit .300 for the year with 20 RBI’s.

He hit 6 doubles and had one home run and also had 12 walks.

Defensively, he committed only three errors all season.

All five of these players are underclassmen and will be back next year for the Panthers.

Campbell, Dickson and Harrington are juniors, while Pieratt and Sanders are sophomores.

The Panthers finished the season 19-6.

They finished third in the 5A South Conference Tournament, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class 5A State Tournament.
