The Central Arkansas Development Council Board of Directors will have a special, called meeting at 5 p.m. at the CADC administrative office, 321 Edison Ave. in Benton. The public is invited.

THURSDAY - Mar. 15

Magnolia High School Class of 1978 will hold a 40th Reunion planning meeting at the Columbia County Library at 6 p.m.

The Magnolia-Columbia County Literacy Council will hold a fundraiser 5:30-8 p.m. at 104 Harvey Couch Blvd. in Magnolia. Tickets are $10 and include Marlar’s grilled chicken breast, special green beans, hashbrown casserole, roll, and a choice of Mississippi Mud or carrot cake. The Emerson-Taylor-Bradley School Board has rescheduled the regular March meeting to 7 p.m. today due to conflicts with other school events. All board meetings are open to the public.

SATURDAY - Mar. 17

Logoly State Park will hold a Natural Bird Feeding workshop 9 a.m.-12 p.m. beginning at the Visitor Center. Admission is $20 and preregistration is required. Space is limited. PAT training will be held at the Columbia Co. Extension Office, 206 W. Calhoun in Magnolia, 5:45-8 p.m. This training is for restricted pesticide license holders with license expiring in 2018 or those who wish to obtain a license. Fee for the class is $10 exact change, payable at the door, or check made out to CES.

FRIDAY - Mar. 23

Today is the deadline to register for the ServSafe Essentials class coming to Magnolia April 10-11. The cost to attend is $140, which includes textbook, course instruction, and exam. Once books are distributed, there are no refunds. Make checks out to Columbia County Extension and write “ServSafe” in the memo line. The training will take place at the Columbia County Extension office, 206 W. Calhoun in Magnolia. Training runs 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. each day.

Today is the deadline to submit nominations for the South Arkansas Women’s Network’s 2018 SAWN Achievement Awards. There are three categories: Horizon Award for young women who are community leaders under the age of 26; Career Achievement Award for women who have reached a career milestone within a two-year period; and the Lifetime Achievement is presented to a woman who has been diligent in serving her community throughout her lifetime. The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center (ASBTDC) and the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce presents “Hiring and Firing the Right Way—HR Seminar for Small Businesses” at 1 p.m. in the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce Board Room, 111 W. Main in El Dorado. Learn how to establish a complete hiring and onboarding process and how to avoid pitfalls of an erroneous employee termination. Magnolia Specialized Services will have its annual steak dinner fundraiser 5-7:30 p.m. at 1616 N. Vine Street. Drive-thru tickets are $25, and dine-in tickets are $30. Both tickets include a 12 oz. ribeye, hash brown casserole, salad, roll and dessert. Dine-in also has salad bar, cooked to order steaks, tea, and homemade desserts. Logoly State Park will host their Annual Easter Celebration at 2 p.m. in their day use area. Admission is FREE! The Easter Egg Hunt will begin at 2:30 p.m. Children ages 4-12 can participate in the egg hunt. Bring baskets or bags to collect your eggs and goodies. Crafts and activities will include making paper flowers and decorating Easter eggs in the Picnic Area 2-4 p.m. Logoly State Park is located 6 miles north of Magnolia on Columbia County Road 47 off Hwy 79. The 24th annual Magnolia High School Scholars Banquet will be held in the Panther Café at Magnolia High School at 6:30 p.m. to honor 108 students in grades 10-12 who have excelled in their academic endeavors.

SATURDAY - Apr. 7

The Keep Arkansas Beautiful clean-up in McNeil begins at 8 a.m. Those participating need to meet at City Hall.

Registration for the Festival on the Rails Fishing Derby is at 11 a.m. in the pavilion at Logoly State Park. At noon lunch will be provided by the Men’s Brotherhood of First Baptist Church of McNeil. The competition will take place after lunch.

SAU Tech’s Annual Welding Academy Competition takes place today 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Compete to win a scholarship to the SAU Tech Welding Academy and show off your welding skills. Pay $25 fee at the event. All high school graduates, GED graduates, and high school students are eligible to compete. Register online at www.sautech.edu at the event link.
