Teasure hunt over, prize found

The Williams Used Car Lot Juneteenth Festival Treasure was found yesterday around 3 p.m. After eight clues, Kyeshia Lewis found a magnet with an inscription on it to win the prize of $300. She was up at 6 a.m. every day waiting on the clues and once Thursday morning’s clue hit, she knew where exactly to go and headed toward the Trinity CME Church. There, stuck to a light pole, was a magnet that had a Lyndon B. Johnson quote on it which Lewis had to recite to Kizmit Davis, UCO President, in order to verify it. Lewis does not have any plans yet for the prize money, but was excited about the treasure hunt and the festival this coming weekend.

The Juneteenth festival will be from Friday, June 15 through Sunday, June 17 at the South Side Park in Magnolia. Pre-Juneteenth festival entertainment includes Harold Massey’s “Trouble Don’t Last Always” stage play at the Magnolia Junior High School auditorium at 7 p.m. Advanced tickets are $10, $15 at the door. Tickets can be purchased online at www.ticketriver.com, at Blackmon’s Barber and Beauty Salon, or at Mr. Mike’s. The

festival itself beings on Saturday, June 16, at noon prefaced with the three-on-three basketball tournament at 9 a.m. This event is completely free to the public and a great opportunity to honor culture through food, music and more.
