Albemarle supports Boys & Girls Club

Kimberly Jones and members of the Albemarle Foundation Board present a check to executive director David Smith of the Boys & Girls Club of Magnolia. The Albemarle Foundation pledged $25,000 toward the club’s renovation project. The club is in the process of raising $250,000 to complete the renovations, which include a new roof, upgraded restrooms, remodeling the game room, more efficient heat and air, and other improvements. The Boys & Girls Club was founded 60 years ago in 1958 by members of the Magnolia Junior Charity League. It serves over 2,000 children ages 5 to 18 and has an average daily attendance of about 300 in the after-school program. In addition to the sports programs, the club’s after-school programs include homework assistance, tutoring, improved reading, drug, alcohol, and tobacco avoidance, mentoring, arts and crafts, after-school meal and a variety of other programs.
