Rebecca Sommers Holland, 81, of the Mt. Vernon Community passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at Life Touch Hospice in El Dorado.
She was born on November 21, 1937, in Homer, Louisiana, to the late D.L. and Greer Carroll Sommers and was a member of the Mt. Vernon Community Baptist Church.
Mrs. Holland grew up in the Macedonia Community and graduated from Magnolia High School. She went on to attend Southern State College (SAU), the University of Houston, the University of Arkansas and Vanderbilt University, ultimately attaining a Masters in Library Science.
Mrs. Holland held various teaching and librarian positions through her 36 years in the education profession, most all within the Stuttgart School District.
Preceding her in death, along with her parents, were her husband James O. Holland; brothers Jack, Harry, and Ralph Sommers; and dear sister, Ruby Sommers Russell.
Survivors include her son, Zachary Holland (Beth), very special granddaughter Madison, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 15, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Community Baptist Church with Bro. Mike Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home of Magnolia.
Visitation with the family will be on Saturday from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.
