RAY SAUNDERS

Ray Saunders, 70, of Magnolia (Village community) died Friday, April 20, 2018, at his residence. He was a firm believer in the Lord.

Ray was born December 7, 1947, in Bradley and was an equipment operator for the City of Magnolia. He served in the United States Army 1967-69 during the Vietnam War and was the Quartermaster for VFW Post 2870 for 15 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Elmo and Elease (Copeland) Saunders; brothers Bill Saunders and John Saunders; and sister Ann Rowe.

Ray is survived by his wife, Becky Saunders of Magnolia; children Angie and Barry Smith of Little Rock, Rachel and Albert Morgan of Texas City, Texas, Jimmy Ybarra of Magnolia, Melissa Ybarra and Bryan of Cabot, Desirée and Kakeitrick Evans of Waldo; brother Wayne Saunders of Longview, Texas; sisters Gina Henderson of Blevins, Gwen and Mike Crabtree of Emerson, Rose and Darrell Hiebsch of Magnolia, and Janice Hopkins of Palestine, Texas; grandchildren Jason Smith, Justin Smith, Lenae Smith, Hannah Crow, Brendan Crow, Elizabeth Morgan, Connor Morgan, Carmen Sanchez, Katai King Evans, Matthew McCoy, Dylan McCoy, Cody McCoy, and Emma Phillips.

Visitation was held 4-6 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at Lewis Funeral Home in Magnolia. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday, April 23, at Lewis Chapel with Pastor Mark Warke officiating. Burial followed at the Glenville Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Daniel Middleton, Rock Dare, Larry Evans, Jeff Gaddis, Jimmy Sanders, and Johnny Sewell. Honorary pallbearers were Oliver Godwin and James Eason.
