FRIDAY - Oct. 20

The Hon. John Dan Kemp, chief justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court, will meet with circuit judges, district judges, county judges, members of the Arkansas House and Senate, county and city officials, sheriffs, chiefs of police, quorum court members, city board members, members of the Arkansas Bar, and all interested citizens of the 13th Judicial District. The meeting will be held in the second floor courtroom of the Union County Courthouse, 101 N. SATURDAY - Oct. 21

Compassion’s Foundation Inc. will hold Stride Against Domestic Violence 5K run. Registration begins at 7 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church. The race will begin at 8 a.m. Pre-registration must be completed by Friday, Oct. 13, to guarantee a T-shirt. For more information, contact Linley Crisp at 870-235-1415.

The City of Waldo will hold its 1st Annual Health Fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the C.W. Easter Center, 902 W. McKissack in Waldo. Free health screenings, flu shots, and information will be available from several sources. Participants will also be able to register to vote. The first 50 participants will receive a gift bag. Logoly State Park will offer a Beginning Crochet workshop 1-4 p.m. The class is suitable for absolute beginners and those who just need a quick reminder. The cost of the workshop includes handouts, a crochet hook, and a skein of yarn to use and take home. Preregistration is required.

Jackson Street Church of Christ, 313 S. Jackson in Magnolia, will host a Trunk or Treat event 5:30-6:30 p.m. There will be free hot dogs, popcorn, and games. Everyone is welcome.

Festival on the Rails will host the annual Fall Party in the Park 6-8 p.m. at the McNeil City Park on Logoly Road. There will be costume contests, games for kids 12 and under, raffles, a cake walk, and food vendors. Everyone is welcome.

Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church, intersection of Columbia 15 and Columbia 200, will have an all-you-can-eat Open Faced Taco Supper Fundraiser 4:30-7 p.m. Adults $10, 5-13 yrs. $5, under 5 yrs. - free. Includes drink, dessert and meal. Dine in or take out.

SUNDAY - Oct. 22

Gospel pianist Gathan Graham will perform at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Lewisville, where he will play everyone’s favorite hymn requests. TUESDAY - Oct. 24

Magnolia Community Awareness Council (MCAC ) will host a community meeting at 6 p.m. at the Hospitality House, 100 Meadowbrook Lane in Magnolia. Dinner will be served and we will give away two $25.00 gift cards. Guest speaker will be data dissemination specialist Deborah T. Pitchford of the Federal Census Bureau. Ms. Pitchford will provide updates on the upcoming federal census process and procedures. There will be opportunity for questions and answers after the presentations. South Arkansas Heritage Museum (SAHM) will host a membership drive/informational meeting 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Magnolia-Columbia County Chamber of Commerce office, 211 W. Main in Magnolia. Harvest Regional Food Bank will distribute USDA commodities directly from their truck 10 a.m.-12 noon. The truck will be parked at the C.W. Easter Recreation Center, 902 E. McKissack St. in Waldo. Pantry boxes will be provided to the first 120 qualifying households. Must be a resident of Columbia County and provide photo ID and proof of address.

Magnolia Masons will hold an all-you-can-eat fried catfish fundraiser 4-7 p.m. at 302 W. Stadium. Proceeds go to Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Adult tickets are $12, children 12 and under $5. Carry-outs will be available.

MONDAY - Oct. 30

The Boys and Girls Club of Magnolia will hold its harvest festival beginning at 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. There will be games and prizes for everyone. The festival is for members and non-members ages 12 and under. Admission is free. Students from the HKR Department at SAU will be in charge of games. Costumes may be worn.

Greer’s Chapel United Methodist Church will host a Laundry Love event 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Main Street Laundry, 1109 E. Main in Magnolia. Coins and detergent will be provided for up to 3 normal loads of laundry per family. Come by to do your laundry for free.

THURSDAY - Nov. 2

The Magnolia-Columbia County Literacy Council (MCCLC) is hosting a Black Thursday auction 7-9 p.m. in Grand Hall of SAU’s Reynolds Center. They are seeking auction items for the event to help raise a goal of $5,000 which will go toward their Teen Tutoring Program, Ride Out Program, and English as a Second Language (ESL) Program. WEDNESDAY - Nov. 8

The South Arkansas Women’s Network (SAWN) will meet at noon in the Magnolia Room of the Columbia County Library (please note the change of venue). Chairman Amy Staten McNeil and Secretary Jennifer Baxley of the South Arkansas Heritage Museum Board of Directors will present photographs and information on local artifacts donated to the museum and answer questions about all aspects of the organization.

SATURDAY - Nov. 11

Columbia County’s First Annual Minority Health Fair and Community Festival will be held 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at 803 S. Jackson in Magnolia. SUNDAY - Nov. 12
