Rogers announces candidacy for prosecuting attorney

Jeffrey Childs Rogers of El Dorado has announced his candidacy for Prosecuting Attorney for the 13th Judicial District. Rogers currently serves as Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for the district, a position he has held for the past 10 years. He earned his BBA from SAU in May of 1980, graduated from UALR School of Law in May of 1983 and was admitted to the bar in September of 1983.

While serving as a deputy prosecuting attorney, he has handled over 125 criminal jury trials. For the past 10 years, his concentration has been on major, violent felony offenses, including all levels of homicide, aggravated robbery, rape and major drug offenses. Of the cases prosecuted by Rogers, there are currently 126 defendants serving extended terms of incarceration, including 44 for murder convictions (seven imprisoned for life without parole for capital murder), 30 for aggravated robbery, 48 for controlled substances violations (four are in prison for life), and four for serious sexual offenses. According to his press release, Rogers “would like to continue the legacy of solid, fair justice that has been established in the 13th Judicial District. Violent felony offenses, major drug cases and habitual offenders will be vigorously prosecuted.”

Rogers gained invaluable legal experience serving as a law clerk for the Arkansas Supreme Court and for Senior United States District Judge Oren Harris, where he attained senior clerk status. He has accumulated over 22 years of service as a deputy prosecuting attorney for the citizens of south central Arkansas.

“I have gained a thorough understanding of the complexities of prosecutorial law, including its capabilities and limitations. I ask for your support as I pursue this office and we move forward into the future,” Rogers said.

Rogers is a native of El Dorado and is married to Laura Rogers. They have five children and three grandchildren.
