SAU falls again in league play

Muleriders at home tonight

SHAWNEE, Okla. - The SAU Muleriders and Lady Muleriders dropped their second consecutive GAC basketball games of the season Saturday afternoon to Oklahoma Baptist.

SAU's Keeton Tennison scored 21 points and Devante Brooks added a 11 points and 12 rebounds, but the Muleriders (1-3, 0-2 GAC) fell short 77-74 on the road to the Bison (2-2, 1-1 GAC).

Trailing 54-39, SAU engineered a 21-4 run including a 13-0 sequence that gave them a 60-58 lead with 9:45 to play; their first lead since the 18:35 mark of the first half. The Muleriders led by two, 72-70, with 3:39 to play. The Bison had three free throws and a layup to claim the win.

CJ Elkins added nine points for the Muleriders, while Quinton Gillette and Draylan Perkins finished with eight apiece.

The Muleriders will host Ecclesia College tonight in a nonconference battle, starting at 6 p.m. at the W.T. Watson Center.

The Lady Muleriders (0-4, 0-2 GAC) showed resilient effort Saturday before losing 96-87 to Oklahoma Baptist (2-2, 1-1 GAC).

SAU's 49 points in the first half were the most since scoring 54 against LeMoyne Owen in 2015, and was the most scored against a Division II opponent since scoring 49 against Rogers State in 2013.

For the Lady Muleriders, Kimberly Crown led with 24, followed by Olyvia McWilliams (22), Anna Djedjemel (17), Ramiah Henry (10). Their next action will be an out-of-town nonconference game against Northeastern State at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
