FRIDAY - Nov. 17

LifeShare Blood Centers will be in the band hall at Magnolia High School 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. to accept blood donations.

The CADC will distribute USDA commodities — including juice, canned fruits, vegetables, cereals, and meats — at the Columbia County Fairgrounds, 200 Columbia Road in Magnolia. All customers receiving commodities must present identification. To be eligible, income guidelines must be met. For more information contact Gwen Edwards at 870-836-3200.

SATURDAY - Nov. 18

Superior Tumble & Cheer and Magnolia Junior Charity League will hold a Christmas Toy Drive 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in front of Wal-Mart to benefit the foster children of Columbia County.

Arkansas Minority Health Commission will hold a free health fair 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the community center, 355 Tidwell Street, in Stephens. Attendees will have access to free health screenings provided by health fair vendors. Screenings will include: prostate, cholesterol, BMI, HIV, bood pressure, glucose, and pulse oxygen. The LifeShare Blood Centers Bus will be at Wal-Mart in Magnolia 1-6 p.m. to accept blood donations.

Kappa Chi and Delta Eta Chapters of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity will hold their Annual Scholarship Fund Banquet at 6:30 p.m. in the Reynolds Center at SAU. Guest speaker will be Sherman Tate, president and CEO of HT & Associates and chairman of the board of the Arkansas Urban League. Honorees for the event are Waldo Mayor Patricia Glover, Rev. W.C. Tims Sr., Chris Gilliam Sr., and William Watson. The City of Waldo will hold a Council Meeting at 6 p.m. at Waldo City Hall. All meetings are open tho the public.

The LifeShare Blood Centers Bus will be at the Wesley Foundation, 114 E. University in Magnolia, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. to accept blood donations.

WEDNESDAY - Nov. 22

St. Phillip AME Church, 401 N. Kelso St. in Magnolia, will serve a free Thanksgiving lunch to the community. The carry-out meals will be served 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

THURSDAY - Nov. 23

The Knights of Columbus will serve their 11th annual Thanksgiving meal 12:30-2 p.m. in the church hall at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 2114 N. Jackson in Magnolia. The Knights invite everyone — especially the elderly, the underprivileged, and anyone who is alone or hungry on Thanksgiving Day — to come and enjoy a free traditional Thanksgiving meal. The menu includes: smoked turkey, dressing, green beans, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, rolls, dessert and drink. The meal will be dine-in or carryout.

FRIDAY - Nov. 24

The Salvation Army will begin the annual bell ringing at Wal-Mart today and tomorrow and continue each Fri.-Sat. until Dec. 15-16. All money collected stays in Columbia County to help residents whose homes have burned or who need help with medications or medical emergencies. For an application, go to the Salvation Army office in the CADC, 1503 N. Vine in Magnolia. Anyone who would like to ring the bell for two hours on any of the weekends is asked to call 870-949-1939.

MONDAY - Nov. 27

Magnolia High School will hold a financial aid meeting at 6 p.m. in the MHS Panther Café to explain the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to seniors and their parents. Representatives from SAU and the SAU financial aid office will present the information. A representative from Arkansas Rehabilitation will also attend the meeting to explain educational financial assistance to qualifying students. This meeting will be extremely helpful to all parents of seniors who have a child planning to attend any post-secondary institution. Please make plans to attend.

Greer’s Chapel United Methodist Church will host a Laundry Love Event 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Main Street Laundry, 1109 E. Main in Magnolia. Coins and detergent will be provided for up to 3 normal loads per family. Come by to do your laundry for free.
