Two Muleriders earn GAC honors

SAU Sports Information

Southern Arkansas redshirt freshman defensive back Stacy Lawrence has been named as the GAC Defensive Player of the Week, while junior Tanner Hudson was named the Special Teams Player of the Week.

Lawrence, a native of Irving, Texas, intercepted Arkansas Tech's Jabyes Cross in the end zone with 2:12 left in the game to preserve a 28-21 win for the Muleriders.

The game-sealing INT came on an ensuing possession in which SAU turned the ball over and Tech began their drive with goal-to-go and just under 3 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Lawrence's interception was the second such game-sealing pick for the Muleriders this year.

Lawrence also added seven tackles to his stat sheet against the Wonder Boys.

Hudson, a native of Camden, Tenn., helped SAU control the field position game with his punts as he totaled 148 yards on three punts for an average of 49.3 yards per punt in SAU's 28-21 win over Arkansas Tech this past Saturday.

Hudson's longest punt was a 75-yard rugby punt that flipped the field from SAU's 32-yardline to Arkansas Tech's 3-yardline.

That 75-yard punt is currently the sixth furthest punt this season in Division II. Aside from special teams, Hudson also played a major factor in SAU's win as the Muleriders' tight end caught eight passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns.

SAU will host Southern Nazarene at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Wilkins Stadium. It will be homecoming and Hall of Fame Day on the campus.
