Dolphins place second in AAU Qualifier meet

EL DORADO - Twenty-eight Magnolia swimmers competed over July 3-5 in the AAU Qualifier for the 2015 Junior Olympics in Virginia Beach, VA, that will be held July 30 through Aug. 2.

The Dolphins scored 871 total points over the three-day period, being outscored by Healthworks, who had 40 swimmers who produced 117 points.

Three of the 28 Dolphins came away with individual trophies in their age group, being the high-point scorer over the three days.

Sophie Ellington won the girls' 8-and-under high-point award with 77 individual points.

Braden Sanchez took the boys' 8-and-under high-point award with 90 individual points, and Cecily Sanchez captured the girls' 10-and-under award with 90 points.

Individually, Braden and Cecily placed first in all of their 10 individual events over the three days. Sophie placed first or second in all of her events.

All three of these Dolphins have qualified to swim in the 2015 Junior Olympics in Virginia.

Other Dolphins have also qualified by placing first, second or third in their individual events at the meet.

They included the following:

• Payton Allman - 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 100m back, 50m breaststroke, 50m butterfly, and 100m butterfly.

• Dylan Burge - 100m breaststroke.

• David Cheng - 200m freestyle.

• Bijan Dadgar - 100m freestyle and 100m breaststroke.

• Caroline Daniel - 50m freestyle.

• Darcy Dingman - 100m breaststroke.

• Riley McCook - 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke.

• Suzannah Neal - 100m backstroke and 200m breaststroke.

• JD Oldham - 1,650 freestyle and 200m breaststroke.

• Carter Pyle - 50m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 500m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 100m butterfly and 200m intermediate medley.

• Clay Riley - 50m freestyle, 1,650 freestyle, 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke, 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly, and 200m intermediate medley.

• Logan Riley - 500m freestyle.

• Sophia Riley - 25 freestyle, 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 25m breaststroke, 50m breaststroke, 25m butterfly, and 50m butterfly.

• Abigail Young - 50m freestyle.

On July 11, the team will compete in its last season swim meet at Monticello and then the following weekend, July 17-18, at the South Arkansas Swim Association championship meet.
