The Great American Conference announced its first weekly award winners following the opening weekend of baseball and among those honored was Southern Arkansas' Will Richardson. The senior from Rison put on a power display across four games at the Dugan Invitational to earn the first weekly honor of his career.
Richardson was a pivotal part of a Mulerider lineup that scored 52 runs in four games including 50 in the final three which were all run-rule victories. He hit .500 (6-for-12) with seven runs scored and seven RBI.
In SAU's first win of the season, Richardson hit the first grand slam in Dugan Invite history as the Muleriders rolled past Rogers State. He added a double and a triple on the weekend, walked twice and was hit-by-pitch twice. Richardson finished the opening weekend with an OPS of 1.625 and as a member of the Dugan Invite All-Tournament team.
Southern Arkansas prepares for its home-opening weekend as the Muleriders play host to Maryville on Friday (doubleheader at 1 p.m.) and Saturday (noon).
