The Columbia County Quorum Court introduced two ordinances aimed at finishing an improvement project on County Road 53.
The first ordinance establishes a county road sub-fund called the Road State Grant Fund.
The fund will be used to keep track of grant money the county has received from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Marine Fuel Tax.
To receive the $374,093 grant, the county is required to add matching funds of at least $22,484.
The second ordinance transferred $25,907 from the County Road Fund to the Road State Grant Fund and appropriated the grant into the fund, putting the fund's total balance at $400,000.
"The grant has certain criteria for what kind of roads it has to be. It needs to be a road leaving a highway going to a fishing or boat landing area," said County Judge Doug Fields, explaining why County Road 53 was chosen for improvement.
Fields said that $400,000 would be enough money to have a mile and a half of the road paved.
Both ordinances passed unanimously.
