Mayor Parnell Vann requested a special motion to add consideration of a resolution for a new walking trail on Stadium Street during a regular City Council on Monday evening.

The resolution will allow the city to apply for a grant, the deadline of which is coming soon, Vann said after Councilperson Jeff White made the motion.

According to Vann, the grant would be used to add a walking trail to Stadium Street near the ball fields. Receipt of the grant, however, is contingent on the city receiving a second grant to add a retention pond in the area.

"This water comes as far away as Pierce Street, Mockingbird, Honeysuckle down to Sue, crosses Washington and comes into our property that way. That water then goes under the state highway beside AmFuel. If you ever walk the woods of AmFuel you'll see where this water eats away at the land. This will slow again like we're doing here on Columbia and Dudney... If we get the sidewalk grant but we're turned down for the pond grant get all dies. I'll keep you aware of that," Vann explained.

The resolution was unanimously approved.

The next City Council meeting is scheduled for June 19.
