SAU drops GAC games over the weekend

BETHANY, Okla.--Southern Arkansas came into the Sawyer Center with hopes of earning a share of first place with Southern Nazarene in the Great American Conference standings, but those hopes were quickly dashed as SNU earned another dominant 77-53 win over the Muleriders on Saturday afternoon.

Southern Nazarene (16-3, 12-1 GAC) was in control throughout the entire game as the Muleriders slipped to 14-5 overall and 10-3 in GAC play.

The Muleriders, trailing 36-26 at the halftime, never threatened during the second half of play. The Crimson Storm grew the lead as high as 29 points in the second half.

SAU managed to shoot only 35 percent from the field and 29 percent from 3-point range, with Blake Rogers knocking down 4-of-7 from beyond the arc and finishing with 16 points. LaTreavin Black added 11, while Gregory Hammond Jr. had nine. Brock Schreiner scored eight points.

Crimson Storm 75, Lady Muleriders 74

Southern Arkansas found themselves with a nine-point lead over the conference-leading Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm but fell short in the fourth quarter to lose 74-75. The Muleriders fall to 4-9 in conference play while Southern Nazarene improves to 11-1. Southern Arkansas recorded a season-high field goal shooting clip of 52.7%.

Senor Jessica Jones led in scoring with 18 points as three other Lady Muleriders recorded double digit scoring figures.

Freshman Brooklin Brown scored 15 points, while seniors Mychala Linzy and Diamond Morris has 12 apiece.

Southern Arkansas will return home Thursday night to the W.T. to take on Southwestern Oklahoma. The women's game will tip off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's contest at 7:30 p.m.
