Southern Arkansas get past Henderson State

Henderson St. held a 31-28 lead at the break, but Southern Arkansas managed to walk away with a 79-61 victory Thursday night at the W.T. Watson Center.

The Muleriders made six 3-pointers in the second half.

During the first four minutes of the second, SAU log back-to-back three-pointers which put them ahead 43-36.

Over the next six minutes, the Muleriders equaled their three-point total from the first 20 minutes as they opened a 57-42 lead with a little over 10 minutes remaining in regulation. Henderson was able to cut the deficit down to seven on multiple occasions.

Gregory Hammond Jr. was 5-of-7 from beyond the arc and finished with 23 points, while LaTreavin Black added 16 and Brock Schreiner added 12. Blake Rogers and Kris Wyche finished with nine apiece.

The Muleriders (11-4, 7-2 GAC) will travel to Searcy this afternoon for a 3 p.m. battle against the Bisons.

In the GAC standings, the Muleriders are in a three-way tie for second with Oklahoma Baptist and Arkansas Tech. Southern Nazarene sits atop the standings with only one league loss.

Two teams are tied for third and two more for fourth. Harding and UAM are at the bottom of the standings with only one league win apiece.

Lady Muleriders 62,

Lady Reddies 60

The Lady Muleriders held on to beat the Lady Reddies by two points Thursday.

With 1:54 left to play, senior Diamond Morris hit a jumper and added a free throw to put the final nail in the coffin. Southern Arkansas improves to 7-8 on the season (3-6 GAC). Morris produced her 10th double digit scoring game of the season to total 188 points on the season and represent the highest scoring Mulerider thus far.

Senior Braydyn Hill, recorded a team-leading four steals as SAU forced 17 turnovers.

The Lady Muleriders outscored the Reddies 14-11 in the first quarter, but Henderson worked their way back in the second to finish out the first half tied 31-31. Late in the game and tied 59-59, a Henderson State made free throw allowed the Lady Reddies to gain a lead with just under two minutes to play.

Southern Arkansas will continue conference play today in Searcy against the Lady Bison.
