SAU head coach Brad Smiley said recently, "We've had a great run this season and it's been a lot of fun. For us to get 12 games is huge. We have players on this football team from Texas High, Pleasant Grove and we have a strong connection with Arkansas High. To me, a successful football team is when you are playing a meaningful game after Thanksgiving weekend," explained Smiley. "The Live United Bowl is top class and definitely a meaningful football game."
The Live United Bowl has become the premier Division II bowl game.
President Allen Brown said, "Before the teams were announced, calls from a number of universities were coming in to ask if they will be considered to play in the 2023 event. This is a testament to the reputation we have built for the Live United Bowl."
A 10-2 season is very important to the Muleriders.
"It's all about the Muleriders. What we have already accomplished and what we can still accomplish. One thing I do know is we should have an opportunity to go after our 10th victory. Like me, our kids are excited about that because there hasn't been a 10-win season here at SAU in 70 something years. Our kids know that and that's we badly want that 10th win," said Smiley.
Tickets prices for Saturday's game are $10 for adults and $4 for students.
The Muleriders arrived in Texarkana on Thursday and participated in a Harvest Texarkana meal packing event that evening.
Today, SAU football players will visit with students the new Texarkana Arkansas School District Middle School as well with clients at the Haven Home in Texarkana.
