Magnolia man charged with possession of multiple drugs

A Magnolia man is facing multiple drug-related charges following a traffic stop wherein drugs were allegedly found in his vehicle.

Tristan Maleek French, 21, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance (meth), possession of a controlled substance (Xanax), possession of marijuana and careless driving.

According to a police report, on Aug. 22, a Columbia County Sheriff's deputy was traveling south on Highway 79 North near Pittman Street when they saw a black sedan turn off Pittman onto the highway. .

While following the vehicle, the officer allegedly observed the vehicle drive through the Walgreens parking lot to avoid the light at Highway 79 and Highway 82 East. The officer subsequently pulled French, the driver of the sedan, over.

According to the police report, the officer allegedly smelled marijuana when he approached the vehicle. He then asked French to get out of the car so he could perform a search.

During the search, the officer allegedly found marijuana, Xanax and methamphetamines in the vehicle, according to the affidavit.

French had his first court appearance on Sept. 1, was released from jail and will appear in court again on Nov. 3.
