Mulerider tennis concludes play at ITA Central Division Regional

Edmond, Ok. – Southern Arkansas tennis concluded play at the ITA Championship where the Muleriders put up valiant efforts against players within the central region.

First match wins in singles play was highlighted by straight set wins by Ole Valkyser (6-3, 6-2), Lluc Camps (6-4, 7-5), Sander Jans (6-2, 6-1), and Matthew Tennant (6-3, 6-4). Valkyser and Jans made it through the round of 32, but ultimately fell in the round of 16. Melvin Vix and Ben Schneider picked up play in the consolation round, where Schneider beat Vix in the quarterfinals (4-2, 4-1) and went on to claim the main bracket consolation title.

On the women's side of singles play, Saray Roy made it to the second round in the main bracket while Greta Wallin found victory until the semifinals in singles "B" bracket where she fell to the number three ranked Sofia Pignataro from Northwest Missouri State (1-6, 7-6, 8-10). In consolation play, Kalley Smith made it to the quarterfinals where Northeastern State's Belinda Jayaprakash won (1-4, 5-4, 3-10).

In men's doubles play, Tennent and Breitenmoser won their first match 8-3, but lost in the round of 16. Camps and Schneider won 8-1 in the round of 32, but fell in the second round. Vix and Gheorge found some success in consolation play, making it to the semifinals where they lost 6-4. Jans and Valkyser also found themselves in consolation play, but were cut short in the quarterfinals.

Milosevic and Wallin made it to the quarterfinals in main bracket doubles play, winning 8-6 and 8-0, but losing 5-8 in round three. In the "B" bracket, Roy and Berrendorf had similar luck, winning 8-4 and 8-6, but falling 5-8 in the quarterfinals.

As a team, the Muleriders won 17 singles matches and 13 doubles matches.

Mulerider Tennis resumes fall action on October 21st at the GAC Championships in Russleville, Arkansas.
