The Arkansas Department of Education recently presented the Magnolia School District with a Gold level Reading Initiative for Student Excellence award.
Magnolia is one of three Arkansas communities that received the Gold level award.
The Little Free Libraries sponsored by the Magnolia Junior Charity League contributed to the school district receiving the award.
Superintendent John Ward said, "There were a number of projects that we did. The school-wide financial literacy piece meeting and the Magnolia Reads program sponsored by Farmer's Bank and Trust."
According to Curriculum Coordinator, Penny Talley, the school district had to apply for the award and present all the literacy programs and events it has held over the past year and was graded based on the impact they made.
Talley also said, "There's a bookmobile bus that we're working on because a lot of kids' parents can't take them to the library. We want them to have access to books... We know that kids can lose knowledge in the summer if they do not read or study."
She also said, " There's going to be a community celebration. When I have those details nailed down, we'll do publicity on it."
