During the regular City Council meeting held Monday, Mayor Parnell Vann expressed his disinterest in the current bids and designs he had received for a splash pad, dog park and skate park.

In February, the City Council agreed to request bids for the construction of a splash pad, dog park and skate park to be developed at Eastside Park.

Vann said on Monday he had gotten a few bids from various groups but none of the bids seemed like a good price for the services being offered.

"I told them to design their dream splash pad, dog park and skate park. Design it as if money was not an issue. I wanted something unique. What they designed was not unique, though; it was the same as other splash pads they had built," Vann said. "I want something that when someone comes to visit Magnolia in the summer they like it so much they decide they need to come back even if it is a three-hour drive. That is not what they were showing us."

Vann said he hopes more contractors will contact him with better designs that will wow him.

Van said in February he hopes the amenities will be finished by next summer.

He also said he believes that it could help bring more tax revenue into Magnolia and help keep families in Magnolia.

Vann said he will inform council members of any new bids that seem worth pursuing at the next Council meeting in June.
