Primary election sees winners in local, state, federal races


The 2022 midterm primary and nonpartisan elections were Tuesday, and Columbia County voters headed to the polls to make their voices heard.

Votes were counted Tuesday evening at the Columbia County Courthouse.

John Boozman won the Republican primary for U.S. Senate with 200,755 total votes including 1,820 from Columbia County voters. Runner-up Jake Bequette received 71,450 votes, 418 of which came from Columbia County. Jan Morgan received 65,633 votes, 529 of which came out of Columbia County. Heath Loftis received 8,071 votes in total, 54 of which came from Columbia County.

Natalie James won the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate with 49,556 total votes including 250 from Columbia County voters. Runner-up Dan Whitfield received 28,193, of which Columbia County cast 185. Jack Foster received 13,280 votes; 94 came from Columbia County.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders won the Republican Primary for Governor with a total of 287,905 votes, of which 2,599 were cast in Columbia County. Runner-up Francis "Doc" Washburn received 58,316 votes, with 253 of the votes coming from Columbia County.

Chris Jones won the Democratic Primary for Governor receiving a total of 66,324 votes; 349 of those votes came from Columbia County. Runner-up Anthony Bland received 9,004 votes, of which 57 came from Columbia County. Jay Martin had a total of 7,689 votes cast for him, with 86 coming from Columbia County. James Russell received 6,382 in total, with 51 coming from Columbia County. Supha Xayprasith-Mays received 4,711, of which 10 came from Columbia County

Leslie Rutledge won the Republican Primary for Lt. Governor with 183,126 votes in total, including 1,592 from Columbia County. Runner-up Jason Rapert received 49,531 votes, of which 227 came from Columbia County. Greg Bledsoe received 33,610, with 209 votes coming from Columbia County. Joseph Wood received 29,184 in total, with 216 votes from Columbia County. Doyle Webb pulled in 23,115 votes, 299 of which came from Columbia County. Chris Bequette received 20,351 votes in total, including 216 votes from Columbia County.

Incumbent John Thurston won the Republican Primary for Secretary of State with 235,879 votes in total, including 2,204 from Columbia County. The runner-up Eddie Joe Williams received 91,244 votes, 466 of which came from Columbia County.

Anna Beth Gorman won the Democratic Primary for Secretary of State with 52,548 votes in total, including 322 votes from Columbia County. Josh Price received 37,135 votes in total, with 200 from Columbia County.

Tim Griffin won the Republican Primary for Attorney General with 284,873 votes, including 2,434 votes from Columbia County. Runner-up Leon Jones Jr. received 48,749 votes, of which 338 votes were from Columbia County.

Mark Lowery won the Republican Primary for State Treasurer with a total of 238,144 votes including 80,257 votes from Columbia County. The runner-up Matthew Pitsch received 80,257 votes, with 662 of those votes coming from Columbia County.

Robin Wynne secured a second term as Supreme Court Associate Justice Position 2 with 202,048 votes in total, including 1,543 from Columbia County voters. Runner-up Chris Carnahan received 117,162 votes, of which 820 came from Columbia County. David Sterling received 88,512 votes, including 829 from Columbia County.

Steve Crowell won the Republican primary for state Senate District 3 with a total of 5,076 votes, including 1,658 from Columbia County. Charles Beckham, the incumbent candidate, lost receiving 4,857 votes, with 1,172 of those coming from Columbia County.

Local results

Doug Fields won the Columbia County Judge election receiving a total of 1,548 votes. Glenn Delany received 1,315 votes.

Shannon Hair will be running off for the County Assessor's office with 1,097 votes. The other runoff opponent Allison Hoffman Fitzgerald received 1,026 votes. Devona Powell received 691 votes.

Selena Belt Blair won the Columbia County Treasurer race with 1,612 votes. The runner-up Whitney Peterson received 1,228 votes.

Sam Sharp won the race for Columbia County Justice of the Peace District 2 by five votes with 159 total votes, according to the election night count. Runner-up Mark Fullenwider received 154 votes.

Shaun Dodson won the Columbia County JP District 6 race with 204 votes. Steve R. Lee received 134 votes.

Current Sheriff Mike Lowe won the Columbia County JP District 11 race with 207 votes. Lesley Thompson received 109 votes.

Derek Avery won the race for Columbia County Constable South with 162 votes. Runner-up Jimmy Holt received 143 votes.

Jason Ray won the seat for Magnolia School District Zone 1 with 352 votes. The runner-up Shelcia Mixon received 89 votes. Tristan Jermany received 62 votes.

Mike Waters won the Magnolia School District Zone 3 race with 464 votes. Shermar Easter received 236 votes.

Steven R. Souter won the seat for Magnolia School District Zone 4 with 449 votes. Brent Walker received 318 votes.

Emily Jester won the Magnolia School District Zone 5 race with 181 votes. Lynetta Flanigan Roberts received 170 votes.

Amber Kyle Mayfield won the seat for the Emerson-Taylor-Bradley School District Zone 6 position with 126 votes. The runner-up Dickey Herring received 37 votes.

Shawn P Dooley won the Emerson-Taylor-Bradley School District Zone 7 seat with 81 votes. Diane Robinson received 42 votes.

The Emerson-Taylor-Bradley School District Millage renewal passed with 351 votes "For" and 203 votes "Against."

The Magnolia School District Millage passed with 1,462 votes "For" and 1,445 votes "Against."

Election Day will be November 8 with early voting starting on October 24.
