Harrington, Tucker honored for academic ahievements

Southern Arkansas University golfer Connor Harrington and baseball player Tucker Burton were recently named to the 2021-22 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 7 at Large First Team. Harrington also earned the honors in 2020-21, and both will advance to the Academic All-America ballot.

Harrington, the Magnolia native, carries a 3.94 GPA in the classroom, and is a double major in Mathematics with a minor education, and Sports Management with an emphasis in athletic administration. Harrington is one of four players from the Great American Conference to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors.

Harrington, a sophomore on the course competed in eight tournaments this year with an average round score of 78.0. The two-time CoSIDA All-District 7 honoree's best finish of the year came in the Natural State Classic, as he finished tied for 30th. Harrington recorded three top 35 overall finishes on the year, and recorded five top 30 in region finishes.

Harrington's best three round total came in the fall at HSU's Battle for the Belt, as he fired a 224 for his three-round total (78, 71, 75). His 71 in round two was his lowest round score of the season. Harrington recorded eight finishes of shooting 75 or better out of his 22 rounds he played in.

Burton, who is one of three GAC baseball to be honored as an All-District honoree, graduated from SAU with a Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology with a 3.81 GPA, and is now pursuing his Master's Degree in Sports Management.

The left-handed slugger was instrumental in SAU's explosive offense this season, as he led the team in home runs with 16. The Texas native is currently batting .312 on the year with 54 hits, 43 runs, 56 RBI, and also leads the team with a .642 slugging percentage. Burton finished with three hits and seven RBI against Harding on April 8th, and he recorded two home runs against Southwestern Oklahoma on February 28th.

Burton, helped the Muleriders to a 41-11 record, a regular season GAC Championship, a GAC Tournament Championship, and a spot in the NCAA Central Region Tournament.

The 2021-22 Academic All-District® Baseball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions -- NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into geographic districts across the United States and Canada.

The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2021-22 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CoSIDA Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
