SAU gets new assistant coach

First-year Mulerider Men's Basketball Head Coach Logan Quinn has announced the hiring of Nic Reynolds as the program's top assistant, effective immediately. The hiring is the first for Quinn who, in early March, became the sixth head coach to lead the program in its NCAA Era. Reynolds brings Division I experience, a detailed familiarity of the Division II basketball landscape and an NAIA All-America playing career with him to Magnolia.

"I am extremely excited to welcome Nic and Molly to our SAU Family and to the Magnolia community," noted Quinn. "His impact will be felt immediately. He has an energy and passion that fits exactly who we are. The cornerstone of our program has been player development, and Nic will be able to continue that in a major way. The relationship aspect is what drew me to Nic initially, and I have full confidence that he will develop great relationships with our current team, and use that to continue to be a great recruiter of young men that fit our vision and standard."

Most recently, Reynolds served as the Director of Basketball Operations at the University of Denver. In his one season with the Pioneers, Reynolds was responsible for all logistics of team travel including scheduling, meals and lodging in addition to handling all team film and video editing, scheduling of practice times and plans both home and away. Reynolds brings two previous years of Division II coaching experience to the Mulerider bench. Prior to Denver, Reynolds served for one season at Purdue Northwest of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). As the Pride's top assistant, Reynolds produced the team scouting reports and handled opponent film analysis as well as directing in-game substitutions, adjustments and defensive matchups. Additionally, Reynolds oversaw academics for the program. His start in Division II coaching begin at the University of Illinois-Springfield where he served as a graduate assistant for the Prairie Stars during the 2019-20 campaign. In addition to being in charge of scouting report and video operations, Reynolds was instrumental in the planning and execution of player workouts and skill developmental sessions.

Reynolds assisted legendary head coach Bob Burchard at Columbia College (Mo.) for one season following a phenomenal four-year playing career for the Cougars. In five seasons, Reynolds was an integral part of 124 wins which included three league championships, a conference tournament title, and four national tournament appearances. Individually, he was twice named an All-American, was a three-time All-American Midwest Conference selection and was named an NAIA Champion of Character.

Reynolds earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management from Columbia College in 2017.
