Southern Arkansas volleyball first-year head coach Alli O'Banion has announced the dates for individual summer camps which will take place in mid-July inside the W.T. Watson Center on the campus of Southern Arkansas University.
Satellite camps are also available on a first-come, first-served basis. Limited space is available in all camps.
The Mulerider volleyball program will offer three individual camps starting with its Elite Muleriders camp for athletes entering grades 9-12 on July 15. The Elite Muleriders camp, which will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will focus on all fundamental skills during the morning session with a chance for the athletes to put it all together and compete with their skillset on display in the afternoon session.
On July 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the program will host a Jr. Muleriders Camp for grades 6th - 8th. This camp will cover all aspects of volleyball.
Campers will learn general volleyball rules, rotations, passing, setting, serving and hitting mechanics. For the attacking portion, campers will learn arm swing mechanics, how to generate more power and shot selection. For the setting session, coaches will focus on the ideal body position, posture, hand position, release to the net, footwork patterns and tempo setting, while the defensive portion of the camp will focus on blocking, serve receive, defensive techniques for the back-row player and defensive schemes.
The Mini Muleriders camp will focus on beginner fundamentals, drills and developing an understanding of the game. The camp will be offered on July 21 and 22 for campers entering grades 3rd - 5th.
For coaches whose schedule will not allow for their team to travel to SAU's "on campus" camps/clinics, Mulerider volleyball will bring the camp to you.
The SAU coaching staff is offering a one- or two-day camp option at high school or junior high gym locations. The coaches requesting the satellite camps are to supply the net(s), the balls, and a minimum of 12 campers. Camp instruction is based on specific need for the coach's program - individual skills, position specific skills, team concepts, etc.
The cost is $40 per day, per athlete and camp sessions will run from 9 am - 12 pm and from 1-4.
