Magnolia Panthers ranked No. 3 overall in basketball

The Magnolia Panthers are ranked third overall in the Associated Press Arkansas Top 10 Basketball poll behind North Little Rock and Jonesboro.

Ben Lindsey's team is ranked No. 2 in Class 4A, ahead of top-ranked Farmington.

However, Farmington is ranked below the Panthers in the overall standings at No. 5.

Though COIVD has affected the schedule this season, the Panthers are expected to travel to Hamburg Friday night.

On Tuesday, Magnolia's Derrian Ford scored 18 points as the Panthers (13-0, 4-0 48-A) cruised past Camden Fairview 70-29. Nevi Tell added 16 and Devonta Walker provided 14.

In girl's action, the Lady Panthers came away with a 48-39 win over the Lady Cardinals.

On Saturday, the Magnolia Lady Panthers will travel to Crossett for a makeup game. A freshman contest will begin at 2 p.m. with the varsity teams following.

Magnolia's makeup conference battle with Star City, which was postponed due to COVID, will be played at Panther Arena on Saturday, Jan. 29. The varsity girl's game will tip off at 5 p.m., followed by the Panthers and Bulldogs.

In a sport-related matter, Magnolia's Panther Arena will be the site of the 2022 Class 4A State Basketball Tournament on March 1-5. The Class 4A Regional Basketball Tournament will be played at Nashville.

The Class 1A regional tournament will be hosted by Mineral Springs, with Wonderview/South Conway County hosting the state event.

Regional basketball tournaments will be Feb. 23-26, followed by state tournament March 1-5. All state finals in each classification will be played at the Hot Springs Convention Center on March 10-12.

The location of state basketball events include: Class 6A - LR Southwest; Class 5A - Sheridan; Class 4A - Magnolia; Class 3A - Valley Springs; Class 2A - Junction City; and Class 1A Wonderview/South Conway County.
