An ordinance passed at the November City council meeting allows for fines if trash and recycling containers are left out.

According to the ordinance, all waste containers are required to only be left out from 4 pm the day before collection to 11:59 pm the day of collection.

Waste containers also must be placed in areas where they do not block traffic, create a hazard, impede mail services or cause other issues for the public or government services while out.

When not at the curb for pickup, waste containers are required to be next to the home and outside of sight if possible.

If a violation occurs the city may prosecute the resident or law enforcement may issue a citation.

For the first violation in a 12-month period, a warning will be issued.

Subsequent violations will be a misdemeanor that will include a fine of no less than $50 for the first offense, $100 for each subsequent offense and court costs.

Each day in violation can be considered a separate violation.
