Panthers handle Crossett in opener

Magnolia allowed Crossett only four points in each of the second and third quarters while cruising to a 65-24 win at Panther Arena.

It was the season-opener for the defending Class 4A State Champions, who used its quickness on defense and full-court pressure to handle the Eagles.

Senior Nevi Tell led in scoring with 20 points.

The Panthers opened a 4-0 lead and never trailed in the game. The were up 17-11 following the first quarter.

The lead stretched to 13, following seven unanswered points by Tell and Amare Roach. Roach nailed a 3-pointer late in the first half to give Magnolia a 33-15 advantage at intermission.

The full-court pressure continued in the third quarter as Magnolia outscored Crossett 22-4.

Magnolia is scheduled to travel to Drew Central tonight where they will battle Star City at 8 p.m. That will be followed by a trip to New Boston, Texas, a week from tonight before returning home to face El Dorado on Thursday, Dec. 22.
