Southern Arkansas heated up in the second half and rolled to a 91-52 victory over Arkansas Baptist College Wednesday night at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center.

During the home opener for the Muleriders (1-2), the Buffaloes stayed within striking distance much of the first half, trailing by only 11 points at intermission. But SAU outscored Arkansas Baptist 53-25 over the final 20 minutes and shot 57 percent from the field compared to 40 percent in the first half.

Buckets by Blake Rogers and Devante Brooks helped SAU get off to a 4-0 start, but ABC's Kwashek Breeden nailed a 3-pointer to cut the lead to one during the first two minutes of action.

SAU, behind long-range jumpers from Jalen Brooks and Tyler Garrett, raced out to a 10-3 lead and eventually led by 11, 22-11, following back-to-back slams by Devante Brooks.

The Buffaloes roared back and cut the margin to six, 29-23, with 6:15 left in the first half.

The Muleriders didn't score a field goal over the final three minutes, but used five free throws to lead 38-27 at halftime.

The second half belonged to the Muleriders as they dominated the offensive board for several second-chance shots. SAU out-rebounded ABC 53-30.

A 7-0 spurt to start the second half quickly stretched the lead to 45-27. The Muleriders were up by 30, 75-45, with just over six minutes to play. SAU's lead was 40 with 1:15 remaining.

Four Muleriders scored in double figures, with Devante Brooks leading with 19. Jalen Brooks added 11, while Rogers and Jessie Davis Jr. had 10 apiece.

Gabriel Johnson led the Buffaloes with 11.

The Muleriders will travel to Dallas Baptist Saturday for a 6 p.m. game and return to the W.T. Watson Athletic Center Monday night to take on Champion Christian College at 7 p.m.
