For the second time in the past three weeks, the Lady Mulerider softball program has a player named as the conference’s player of the week.

For the first time this season, Elisa Favela finds herself amongst the honors.

The senior designated player receives the award for her efforts at the plate against Northwestern Oklahoma State.

For the weekend, she hit .625 at the plate, with three of her five hits going for extra bases, two of which left the yard. She slugged 1.500 and drove in six runs while scoring four times herself. She was also responsible for a pair of “walk-off” hits to give the Muleriders two run-rule victories on Senior Day.

An infield single in game one versus the Rangers put her on base, scoring on a Christina Hill homerun at the next at-bat.

Game two saw the Hawaiian go 2-3 from the plate; a double in the second inning set the table for a three-run inning for the Lady Muleriders, and her two-run homerun in the fifth inning gave the hosts a 8-0 victory.

She went 2-2 in the final game in the series, in addition to starting inside the circle. In the third inning, she hit a three-run homerun to move the score to 5-1; and in the bottom of the fifth, her sacrifice fly to right field pushed across the deciding run in the 9-1 triumph.

On the season, the senior is hitting .344 with a team-best seven homeruns and 10 doubles, as well as a .689 slugging percentage.

This was the third time Favela has been named the GAC Player of the Week in her career (in addition to being Pitcher of the Week once). This is the 54th time a Lady Mulerider has received a weekly honor under head coach Jason Anderson.

Favela and the Lady Muleriders are in Weatherford, OK, today and Saturday for a three-game GAC series against Southwestern Oklahoma State. Today’s doubleheader starts at 1 p.m., with Saturday’s single game beginning at noon.

The GAC Softball Tournament will be played in Bentonville starting May 14.
