Registration to run for Mayor, City Council ends soon

Elections for the mayor of Waldo and the Magnolia and Emerson-Taylor-Bradly school boards are set for May 18, but the filing period to run for the offices will end soon.

The filing period for the school boards of Magnolia and Emerson-Taylor-Bradly began Feb. 23 and will end at noon on Monday. The filing period to run for mayor of Waldo will begin on March 1 at noon and end on March 8 at noon. As of Feb. 26, no residents have filed to run for the open school board positions.

Candidates for school board must be U.S. citizens, registered voters of the school district and a resident of the school district. Those running are disqualified if they are an employee of the school district and if they have been convicted of fraud, embezzlement of public money, bribery, forgery or any felonies.

Deputy County Clerk and Election Coordinator Mary Rogers said that the County Clerk’s office will accept mail-in ballots for the upcoming election, but residents must complete a new absentee ballot application. Early voting will begin on May 11 and end on May 17; local residents will be able to vote from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on those days.
