Soutthern Arkansas opens its GAC basketball season tonight

Southern Arkansas's attention now turns to the Great American Conference as it opens league action tonight in Searcy against Harding.

The battle between the Lady Muleriders (4-1) and Lady Bisons will tip off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Muleriders (4-2) and Bisons at 7:30 p.m. inside Rhodes Reaves Fieldhouse.

The Muleriders got their fourth win of the season at home Monday night with an 82-60 victory over Delta State. Brothers Devante and Jalen Brooks led the way with 19 points apiece as Andy Sharpe's squad turned 23 Delta State turnovers into 41 points. It was SAU's first basketball victory over the Statesmen since the 2011-12 season. Ty Archibald delivered 14 points which included sinking four of SAU's seven makes from beyond-the-arc. Aaron Lucas scored a dozen points and had six assists, four steals and three rebounds.

In the GAC, Northwestern Oklahoma, Southeastern Oklahoma and Southern Nazarene are all 4-1 on the years, followed by SAU and UAM at 4-2. Henderson State sits at 3-2, while Oklahoma Baptist is 3-3. Arkansas Tech and Harding are both 2-3 on the season, while Southwestern Oklahoma is 1-3.

East Central and Ouachita Baptist are both off to 1-4 starts.

The Lady Muleriders' fourth win of the season came over the weekend, an 88-83 victory at home against Christian Brothers.

Five players registered double figures in scoring highlighted by a double-double effort of 15 points and 14 rebounds from senior Kisi Young. Kylie Warren and Ariana Guinn had 16 apiece, while Kenzie Ezekiel and Diamond Morris added 10 each.

The Lady Muleriders, along with Harding and Henderson State, are 4-1. Arkansas Tech and East Central follow with. 3-1 mark, while Southwestern Oklahoma is 6-2 and Southern Nazarene standing at 5-2.

Northwestern Oklahoma and Oklahoma Baptist are both 3-2 on the season, followed by Southeastern Oklahoma (2-4) and UAM (0-6).

After tonight, SAU plays its GAC home openers at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. against Henderson State.
