Fire destroys home of two volunteer firefighters

On April 7, the Mt. Vernon Volunteer Fire Department responded to an active residential fire on Highway 344 North of Lake Columbia. The department took to Facebook declaring that they believed the incident to be caused by an electrical fire and that the residents were okay. The home belonged to Tommy and Siera Sumner, volunteer firefighters in Mt. Vernon. The fire department shared a link to a fundraiser that will be used to replace items that were lost in the fire. As of April 14, the fundraiser has raised $4,050 of its $10,000 goal.
