The Heart of Mary Catholic Church saw their pro-life display on church property knocked down during the night of Oct. 19.

The display is made up of multiple crosses and a banner that reads, “150 babies killed by abortion every hour in the U.S. Defend Life!”

The display was sponsored by the Local Knights of Columbus Council. The display is put up every October for Respect Life Month and in January for the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that affirmed the legality of abortions.

“It seems the act of vandalism was intended as a statement against our stance that abortion is morally wrong,” stated Preist Keith Higginbotham in an email to the Banner-News. Higginbotham stated that several of the crosses were pulled up and the banner was pulled down, yet very little damage occurred.

Higginbotham stated that the Church has been praying for those who vandalized the display and continued to pray for the mothers and fathers in difficult pregnancies and what his parish called the ‘victims of abortion.’

“We understand that there is a great deal of tension around this issue. We want to support mothers and fathers in difficult pregnancy situations, and we understand that abortion is not a morally acceptable solution to those difficult circumstances,” stated Higginbotham.
