NANCY M. CARTER

Nancy Marie Pettett Carter, 80 of Magnolia passed away in peace Wednesday, March 18 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

Nancy Marie was born December 2, 1939 in Port Angeles, Washington to Gene Pettett and Dorothy (Basteyns) Pettett. She grew up in Washington State and then moved to Texas after marrying C.B. Carter. After her husband’s death in 1986, she moved to Arkansas, the state she would forever after love and call home.

Nancy began her long career as a social worker in the 1980s after completing a Bachelor of Psychology and a Master of Social Work at the University of Texas at Arlington. Over her long career as a social worker, she worked at a variety of agencies. Through those agencies, she gained experience serving the needs of the poor, the abused, the addicted, the elderly, the very young, and more. Nancy’s real love began when she left agency work and began a 30-year private practice as a therapist. Her experience gave her knowledge, and her deep love and concern for others made her effective. Her mission in life was to help others, and that she did beautifully.

We will miss our loving Mother, Sister-in-Law, Aunt, Grandmother, and special friend.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Dolores Schwerdfeger and her extended family, her children and their spouses Brian Carter (Delores), Laura Johnson (Tom), her grandchildren and their spouses Nicole Ayers (Jeremy), Bryan Carter (Sarah), Stephen Carter, Claire Carter, Grace Carter, Candy Johnson, Shawn Johnson (Sarah), her sister-in-law Li Pettett, four nieces and two nephews, five great-granchildren, and more.

Nancy was preceded in death by her infant son who lived two precious days, her parents, her brother Jim, and her loving husband.

In light of the ongoing public health concerns and in compliance with the current CDC guidelines, the family has decided to hold a small gathering of family and close friends at future date yet to be determined. She will be buried next to her husband’s grave in Arlington, Texas.
