Class 1A State Tournament update: Emerson girls advance; Bradley, Nevada in action Friday, Saturday

In Class 1A State Basketball Tournament action at Lake Hamilton, the Emerson Lady Pirates moved to the next round with a 67-41 win over Kingston Thursday night. On Friday at 7 p.m., they will battle West Side.

On the boy’s side, the Nevada Blue Jays will look to earn a trip back to the state finals when they play again at 1:30 Saturday afternoon. They beat County Line 61-31 and Concord 50-36. Bradley plays again at 5:30 today.

In other local sports news:

• SAU’s basketball season came to an end with losses to Southeastern Oklahoma State in the Great American Conference Tournament on Thursday. The Muleriders fell to the Savage Storm 83-69 and the Lady Muleriders were eliminated by a score of 84-75. The Muleriders were led by Devante Brooks with 22 points and 12 rebounds. They closed the season with a 13-16 overall record and 10-12 league mark.

• The Lady Muleriders fought back from a 30-point halftime deficit, but came up short.During the final 20 minutes, they managed to cut the Savage Storm lead down to seven points with 1:04 remaining. Four players scored in double figures with Kylie Warren and Diamond Morris each finishing with 14 points apiece. The Lady Muleriders finished the year with 17 wins, a 14-win improvement from a year ago.

• In Class 4A, the unbeaten Magnolia Panthers will play their first game at 5:30 p.m. today in Farmington against the Blytheville Chicksaws. The winner advances to the semifinal game on Saturday night.

• The 19th-ranked Mulerider baseball is on the field today in Alva, Okla., taking on Northwestern Oklahoma. A GAC doubleheader will start at noon Saturday. The fifth-ranked Lady Muleriders are home today and Saturday for doubleheaders against Northwestern at Dawson Field.
