The Columbia County Quorum Court will meet on Monday, July 20, at 5:00 p.m. at the Columbia County Courthouse to discuss and vote on a resolution declaring and filling a vacancy in the Columbia County Tax Assessor’s office.
The JPs will meet in the second floor courtroom to consider the resolution and declare a vacancy in the office. The vacancy went into effect Sunday when Sandra Cawyer resigns to take a position with the Arkansas Revenue Department. Sawyer has held the position since 2011.
The Quorum Court will be looking to fill her unexpired term.
Anyone interested in the appointment should turn their resume in to the County Judge’s Office no later than Wednesday, July 15, 2020 by 9 a.m.

Resolution No. 2020 to be considered by Quorum Court states:
A resolution declaring and filing a vacancy in the office of County Tax Assessor in the county of Columbia, state of Arkansas.
Be it resolved by the Quorum Court of the county of Columbia, state of Arkansas that:
WHEREAS, Sandra Cawyer, who held the office of the County Tax Assessor of Columbia County, State of Arkansas, and has served in that capacity since 2011 has resigned and has taken a position with the State of Arkansas Revenue Department effective July 5, 2020.
WHEREAS, it is the obligation of the Quorum Court of the County of Columbia, State of Arkansas, to declare that a vacancy has occurred in the office of the County Tax Assessor in the County of Columbia, State of Arkansas, as authorized by Amendment 55 of the Constitution of the State of Arkansas and Arkansas Code Annotated § 14-14-1309.
WHEREAS, the Quorum Court is further authorized by Amendment 55 of the Constitution of the State of Arkansas and Arkansas Code Annotated § 14-14-1310 to fill the vacancy of the unexpired term by appointment;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE QUORUM COURT OF THE COUNTY OF COLUMBIA, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. A vacancy is hereby declared to exist in the office of County Tax Assessor of Columbia County, Arkansas, due to taking a position with the State of Arkansas Revenue Department of the duly elected Columbia County Tax Assessor.
SECTION 2. That_is appointed hereby to fill the position of County Tax Assessor of Columbia County, Arkansas, effective 12:01 a.m. June 20th, 2020, and that said person is authorized hereby to serve in said capacity until the expiration of the term on December 31, 2022.
