Boys and Girls club seeks volunteers for remodeling effort

The 2020 Class of Leadership Magnolia is beginning work on their project of remodeling the Boys and Girls Club game room. The organization is seeking volunteers to help with the project, which will have work days on August 8 and 15.

Volunteers will paint, lay flooring, move heavy objects, replace windows and perform other duties. The 2020 Class of Leadership Magnolia is also seeking skilled workers that may be able to contribute to the project utilizing their professional knowledge.

This remodel comes at a busy time for the Boys and Girls Club. Currently, the organization is looking for a new Executive Director to replace David Smith, who held the position for 31 years and is set to retire in October. Boys and Girls Club Board Chairman Jason Ray said that in the time Smith has been the Executive Director, the Club grew three baseball fields to six, one gym to two, and implemented a food program that is run through the United States Department of Agriculture to feed children a meal after school.

The Boys and Girls Club is also hosting a Charity Golf Tournament on Friday, August 7 at the Magnolia Country Club. The tournament is a four man scramble, with an entry fee of $200 per team. Lunch is provided to the participants, who will tee off at 1:00 p.m. There is also a $100 hole sponsorship opportunity for local businesses advertisements to be displayed and door prizes for participants during the event.
