Columbia County Judge Denny Foster’s office has announced that, effective immediately, WCA solid waste route personnel are no longer permitted to collect any items placed outside of the standard, county-issued garbage containers.

The change comes amid CDC recommendations. Commercial route drivers for WCA also can no longer leave their vehicles to collect any materials outside of the regular containers.

“This safety measure is based on recommendations from public health officials and our commitment to minimize possible employee exposure to the COVID 19 coronavirus,” said the a statement from the Judge’s office.

WCA is steadily to monitor the situation and will make any required changes, according to Wednesday’s statement.
