AVIS C. MOSES

Avis Chambers Moses, 89, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2019, in Magnolia.

Avis was born on February 27, 1930, in Mineral Springs to the late Edgar and Jettis Marie (Reese) Chambers. She graduated from Nashville High School in 1947 and Magnolia A&M in 1950. She married the love of her life, Billy Joe Moses on July 15, 1950. Throughout her years she worked for Berry Petroleum, Kern Drilling, Transcontinental Drilling, and retired from Southern Arkansas University with eight years of service.

Avis was a member of the Jackson Street Church of Christ and loved music. She filled the home with all kinds of it from Big Band to Pop to Country Western. She played stacks of records every morning and all day on Saturdays. She loved her family deeply and enjoyed Thanksgiving and Christmas. She was family famous for her Chicken and Dressing and Lemon Ice Box Pie. Her love was dearly returned by all her family. She was a fine Southern Christian Lady, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Avis was preceded in death by her parents; first born son Anthony Moses; brother Ed “Sonny” Chambers. She is survived by her husband of 69 years Bill Moses; sons, Greg Moses and wife Patti of Magnolia and Perry Moses and wife Dana of Jonesboro; daughter Candy Russell and husband David of Arkadelphia; grandson Chris Glass and wife Katelyn of Conway; granddaughters, Maci Curtis and husband Jutt of Spring Hill, Adrienne Burkett and husband Tyler of Austin, Texas, and Alyssa Moses of Jonesboro; six great grandchildren, Callie and Caine Glass of Conway, Westin and Kip Curtis of Spring Hill, and Berlynn and Landon Burkett of Austin, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2019, at the Lewis Funeral Home Chapel with Brian Mickey officiating. Burial will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home in Magnolia.

Visitation was held Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be David Russell, Perry Moses, Chris Glass, Jutt Curtis, Steve Chambers, and Buddy Hight.
