Magnolia’s square looks a little more festive this fall as contest entries have popped up all over downtown this week in advance of Thursday evening’s Second Thursday Market autumn merchant event. The 5-8 p.m. event features extended hours for stores on the square, plus live entertainment and child activities around the Square Park and Albemarle Stage at downtown’s northwest corridor on N. Jefferson Street.

The judges score Farmers Bank and Trust's scarecrow entry along S. Washington Street.

To kick off the festivities, fall decorations and stuffed scarecrows and other seasonal décor were judged Thursday afternoon. The prize will be announced tonight via the Magnolia-Columbia County Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook Live stream. The winning merchant will be presented a championship sash and hold bragging rights for the rest until next year. Second and third prizes will also be handed out.

The decorations that have added seasonal life to the downtown square will be on display until the end of October.
