'Banner-News' GM announces retirement

Sue Silliman, the general manager for Camden News and the Magnolia Banner-News, announced her retirement from WEHCO newspapers Monday morning. Robyn Yarbro, director of business development for both papers, will be promoted to general manager.

“Sue has been an outstanding general manager,” WEHCO chairman Walter E. Hussman Jr. said. “Her dedication and loyalty to the Camden News has been exceptional. We will miss her and wish her well in the future. But we are fortunate to have Robyn take her place. She is also a talented and strong leader for the Camden News.”

Silliman has worked for WEHCO for more than three decades.

“I have been blessed to work this great company for 36 years,” she said. “Local newspapers will continue to play a vital role in being the community watchdog. Robyn Yarbro will take the reins and continue to move our newspapers forward.”

WEHCO Newspaper Division President Mark Lane said Silliman served readers, advertisers, the community and employees well during her time with the company.

“She has been the general manager of the Camden News for 14 years and the general manager of the Banner-News for the last four years,” he said. “She is an outstanding leader as well as an amazing person.”

WEHCO President and CEO Nat Lea IV said “I have enjoyed working with Sue my entire time with WEHCO Media and witnessed her good work first hand. I wish her well, she will be missed. I am also looking forward to seeing Robyn’s leadership of our newspapers.”

Silliman’s last day will be Dec. 31, and Yarbro will begin her new position on Jan. 1.

“Robyn has done an outstanding job for our company over the past 20 years. She is going to do a great job for our readers and advertisers,” Lane said.

Yarbro is excited to begin in her new role in Camden and Magnolia.

“I look forward to working with the staff in both markets to take these newspapers into the future,” she said. “Newspapers play a vital role in the support of democracy; our local papers are no exception. I’ve worked for the best company in the business since 1997 and I am thankful God has placed me here with co-workers, readers and advertisers that I hold dearly.”
