Wader, No. 5 SAU get GAC sweep; Lady Muleriders hosting UAM today

The NCAA Division II fifth-ranked SAU Lady Muleriders (26-6, 17-3 GAC) swept Southeastern Oklahoma State in a pair of doubleheaders over the weekend by scores of 5-0, 4-3, 8-0 and 10-5.

SAU will be back in action at 4 p.m. today when it host the Arkansas-Monticello Cotton Blossoms in a GAC doubleheader on Dawson Field at the Dr. Margaret Downing Softball Complex.

In SAU’s first doubleheader against Southeastern Oklahoma, Chelsea Fagan launched her league-leading 13th home run of the season. Sydney Wader threw a two-hitter, going the distance and striking out four Savage Storm batters in the process.

In the second game, pitcher Wader also picked up her second win of the day.

During the second doubleheader, the Lady Mulerider offense had 10 extra base hits and 18 runs over two games. Laina Suesue had her third home run of the season.

Wader picked up her 14th victory in the circle, throwing her second complete-game shutout of the weekend, scattering only four hits while striking out three. For the weekend, she pitched 14.2 innings, picking up three wins and only allowing two runs, one earned, striking out nine batters over four games.

Chelsea Fagan had her 14th homer of the year and Savannah Martinez nailed her fourth. Faith Otts’ also cleared the fence, claiming her eighth home run.
