Local track teams are off to good start

EL DORADO - Magnolia captured its second track victory of the season by taking the annual Oil Belt Relays at El Dorado’s Memorial Stadium last week.

The Panthers piled up 105 points, well-ahead of second-place El Dorado’s 78 points. Other finishers in the 10-team track and field meet were Little Rock Parkview (66), Watson Chapel (63), Pine Bluff (62), Haynesville (59), Parkers Chapel (23), Camden Fairview (13), Glenbrook (3) and Hermitage (2).

The Lady Panthers also scored 105 points and won the girls’ division over the Lady Wildcats, who finished with 90 points. Glenbrook (63) was third, followed by Parkview (59), Watson Chapel (48), Pine Bluff (38), Camden Fairview (29), Haynesville (21), Parkers Chapel (19), Bearden (15) and Hermitage (7).

On Thursday, March 28, Magnolia will host the annual Panther Relays.

In El Dorado, 100m and 200m state champion Dandrea Green won both events at the Oil Belt Relays. Also, Steven Liberty won the 3,200m run and Stephen Birmingham finished first in the pole vault.

For the Lady Panthers, Bailey Stultz placed first in the pole vault.

Magnolia’s 4x800m relay also finished first.

Cubs, Lady Cubs

win track meets

EL DORADO - The Magnolia freshmen Cubs ran away with the El Dorado Jr. Wildcat Relays, piling up 145 points. Host El Dorado was a distance second with 72 points.

They were followed by Camden Fairview (68), Pine Bluff (56 1/2), Warren (42 1/2), Hermitage (34), Smackover (31) and Parkers Chapel (15).

The freshmen Lady Cubs dominated the girls’ division with 190 points, well ahead of El Dorado’s 112. Following were Warren (39), Pine Bluff (39), Smackover (33), Camden Fairview (29), Hermitage (20) and Parkers Chapel (11).

The annual 9th grade MJHS Cub Relays at Panther Stadium are set for Tuesday, March 26. Field events will begin at 3:30 p.m. On April 2, MJHS will compete in the Nashville Jr. Scrapper Relays, followed by the Camden Fairview Jr. Cardinal Relays on April 9.

The Magnolia 7th/8th grade Cubs placed first and Lady Cubs second during the recent six-team El Dorado Jr. Wildcat Relays.

In the annual event, the Cubs scored 93 points, ahead of El Dorado Barton’s 68, while the Lady Cubs were second (77 points) to Barton’s 120 points.

The Magnolia 7th/8th Cub Relays are set for Monday, March 25 at Panther Stadium. The younger MJHS teams will compete in the 7th/8th grade Cardinal Relays at Camden Fairview on April 8.
