Southern Arkansas’ Serena Gill and Raymond Marin Garcia were named the GAC Male and Female Tennis Players of the Week for their efforts on the court last weekend. It was the first weekly GAC honors for both athletes.
Gill’s performance helped the Lady Muleriders improve to 12-3 overall. A native of Wolverhampton, Great Britain, she was in the midst of rallying in a singles competition that was called. In doubles, she and teammate Lena Milosevic were leading 5-4 before that action was called as well.
Garcia, a Marbella, Spain, native posted a 4-0 record overall as he went unbeaten in singles competition and was on a winning doubles team.
Gill, Garcia and the SAU tennis teams are playing at home this morning at the Live Oaks Tennis Courts on the campus. Matches against McKendree are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
In other SAU sports, the Mulerider baseball team will play a doubleheader today and a single game on Sunday against East Central Oklahoma. The sixth-ranked Lady Mulerider softball team is expected to conclude it four-game series at East Central with a doubleheader today. The track and field teams are competing in the Rhodes College Invitational in Memphis today.
