In observance of the American Legion’s 100-year anniversary on Friday, Columbia County Judge Larry Atkinson proclaimed March 15 as American Legion Day in the county as members of Magnolia’s American Legion Post 3 in Magnolia celebrated the reading on the courthouse lawn. The organization began March 15, 2019, after American forces gathered in France after World War I for what became the American Legion Paris Caucus. Later that year, the group based on four pillars of veterans affairs and rehabilitation, national security, Americanism, and children and youth was chartered by congress.
