Magnolia senior Kayleigh Sneed was excited to be the 2019 recipient of the Boys & Girls Club’s Wes Weiser Youth of the Year Award and a $2,500 Wes Weiser Scholarship.
“I am very humble. I’m thankful for those who made this possible and for everyone who has helped me get to this point,” said Sneed, who plans to attend SAU in the fall and pursue a career in education.
According to Sneed, the Boys & Girls Club has help mold her into the young woman she is today through its athletic and other programs. She stated she has heard many good things about Wes Weiser and hopes to exemplify some of his characteristics.
Sneed was presented the award at Tuesday’s annual B&GC board meeting/banquet, held at the SAU Alumni Center. She was the 56th recipient of the award, which the club has given out since 1997.
Sneed, a 10-year member of the club, volunteers with many organizations such as Wounded Warrior Project, MHS Pageant, Special Olympics, Senior Meals and Southern Christian Mission. She’s in several school activities such as Student Council, Panther Pride, National Honor Society, Teacher Cadet, basketball, volleyball and track.
